Provider Assurance Pharmaceutical Services: New Medicine Service Summary

The New Medicine Service (NMS) is an NHS England initiative that supports eligible patients with newly prescribed medicines understand how to manage their medication and therefore improve their long-term condition.

Who is the New Medicine Service For?

The NMS provides incentives for pharmacies to conduct three meetings with eligible patients: the initial meeting, an intervention and a follow up.

The NHSBSA are responsible for processing these incentive fees and conduct post payment verification (PPV) to ensure the validity of claims.

Why is the New Medicine Service Important?

Pharmacies that register via MYS to deliver the NMS are eligible for incentive payments, providing the delivery of the service meets the relevant criteria. PPV ensures these claims were made correctly and enables overpayments to be recovered.
