On 1 April 2023, the Department of Health and Social Care introduced a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) to reduce the cost of certain hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prescriptions.

Developed during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to overcome logistics and resource challenges, the service validates candidate documentation remotely and digitally. This removes the need for separate appointments and speeds up the recruitment process. This service considerably reduces the time and effort involved in checking a candidate’s documentation before employment.

The NHS Business Services Authority is helping patients understand their eligibility for free NHS prescriptions and NHS dental treatment by encouraging them to use our free online eligibility checker.

From 1 September 2021, the temporary signature suspension has been lifted. Patients, or their representatives, will again be required to sign the reverse of NHS prescription, dental and eye care forms, or tokens for prescriptions presented at the pharmacy.

New prescription forms are being introduced in England to help eligible patients correctly claim free NHS prescriptions and avoid penalty charges.
