Workforce Services

Our platforms and services enable the career pathways of colleagues across health and care, helping the NHS to support its people.

Student Services: On behalf of the DHSC we administer the NHS Learning Support Fund for healthcare students, the NHS Bursary scheme for medical and dental students and the Social Work Bursary for social work students during their studies. NHS Jobs: The official online recruitment service for the NHS in England and Wales, this is the biggest marketplace for health jobs in the UK. We’ve developed a completely new service to manage your full recruitment life cycles, from job posting to onboarding successful applicants. Electronic Staff Record (ESR): The largest centralised HR and payroll system in the world, with over 1.8 million staff records. Commissioned by the DHSC, it enables organisations to record essential workforce, skills and training information and pay their staff over £45 billion per annum accurately and on time. HR Shared Services: We are the centre of expertise for the NHS, delivering a comprehensive range of HR Shared Services to NHS organisations. These include Recruitment, Records Management, Learning Solutions and Professional HR Advisory. NHS Pensions: We administer the NHS Pension scheme on behalf of the DHSC. As the largest centrally administrated pension scheme in Europe, we have 3.4 million members across England and Wales and make payments to NHS pensioners of over £12 billion annually.

Be part of the future NHS workforce solution

We’re heading up an NHS-led transformation programme to identify and deliver the future NHS workforce solution. The solution will:

  • support effective recruitment, retention and workforce planning within health and care
  • provide workforce services that support the delivery of the NHS People Plan and other workforce policies
  • maintain ongoing engagement and outcomes from the future of NHS HR and the Organisational Design (OD) programme
