NHSBSA accredited with GOC CPD full provider status

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) has been awarded full provider status by the General Optical Council (GOC). The accreditation recognises the NHSBSA as a trusted provider of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for Ophthalmic contractors.

Full provider status is granted to organisations who have provided numerous successful CPD opportunities that meet the GOC’s rigorous quality standards. The new status means that the NHSBSA is trusted to design and deliver CPD without needing to have it GOC approved in advance of delivery.

Omar Hassan, Ophthalmic Senior Clinical Advisor at the NHSBSA, said: “Accreditation as a GOC CPD provider was something that our team had aspired to obtain for sometime. So, in January 2022, the NHSBSA’s Provider Assurance Ophthalmic service began offering CPD opportunities to ophthalmic contractors for the first time under a provisional status."

“Our goal was to be accredited with full provider status, however to achieve this, we needed to generate demand for our CPD courses."

“We worked collaboratively with our communications team to communicate, promote, and encourage uptake of our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to ophthalmic contractors. As a result of our CPD courses' uptake and success, the GOC awarded us with full provider status in March 2023. Just over a year after starting our endeavour."

“We are now able to create a range of informative CPD materials that inform and upskill ophthalmic contractors.”
