Pupils experience five North East organisations over five days

Like-minded organisations from five different sectors have come together to offer students from regional schools, careers experience over five days [this week, from Mon 20-Fri 24].

Pupils from Jesmond Park, Cardinal Hume, Marden High and Park View schools are visiting the different organisations to find out about the range of roles on offer and what it’s like working there.

The 12 pupils are experiencing a new organisation each day for a week with lots of great activities such as speed networking and job shadowing. There will be a celebratory graduation and this year Commonwealth Champion and professional boxer Stacey Copeland is among the speakers.

The organisations taking part this year include NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA), Connect Health, Accenture, Tesco Bank and Home Group.

Kirste Worland, Head of Technology Applications at NHSBSA commented: “This is such an exciting initiative! There’s been a brilliant response from everyone involved.  It’s work experience with a real difference and an amazing opportunity, not only for the young women involved but also for our wonderful inspiring role models here at NHSBSA.”

The brainchild of Julia Smith of People Science Consulting, the ‘Power of Five’ programme is supported by five founding companies, PwC, Virgin Money, Cundall, Muckle and NBS. The programme targets Year 9 students as they are just about to make decisions about their GCSE options - so that it can help them with that key decision.
