NHS Business Services Authority launches innovative new dental reporting system

An innovative new reporting system aimed at NHS Primary Care Dental Commissioners has launched this week.

The new eDEN reporting system contains information on dental commissioning and contracting across England, Wales and the Isle of Man.

eDEN is based upon cutting edge Oracle Analytics Cloud technology enabling the creation of visually powerful dashboards and automated published reporting. This represents a significant improvement on current reporting technology as it introduces the ability for faster, more agile content used to support new public health initiatives.  The system is also more intuitive due to the way data can be shown more visually, helping our users gain insight into their commissioning region and work more efficiently.

Jason Harper, Information Services Manager for Dental and Ophthalmic at NHSBSA said:

“The eDEN system has been designed to become a one stop shop for all Primary Care Dental data.

“Our teams have been hard at work creating eDEN which will enhance our existing flagship data services. Given the ever-changing needs of patients, primary care organisations and the NHS, supporting these future needs is at the heart of the vision for eDEN.”

eDEN supports health initiatives including Smile for Life and Starting Well, commissioner-led schemes aiming to introduce very young children to the dentist and embed good habits.

To begin with, eDEN content will include the Dentistry Dashboard, which provides insight and analysis at regional, local office and contract levels.

Then in the coming months, the NHS Business Services Authority will be working hard on migrating reporting content across to the new system with a long term view of rolling this reporting tool out to individual dental contract holders.

The current reporting systems will remain in place until the end of December 2019, so that users can access existing commissioner content whilst the remainder of the eDEN soft launch content is finalised.
