10,000 people text to save a life
A new text messaging service has been developed asking people who beat COVID-19 to register to donate convalescent plasma.
The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) supported NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) by sending texts to 65,000 people, directing them to a link and a web form where they could volunteer to donate.
More than 10,000 people registered as potential donors within the first two days.
The convalescent plasma will be used for a major coronavirus treatment trial and, if successful, widespread use in hospitals.
Texts will now be sent to anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 through the national testing programme 21 days after their result.
