Small-Scale-Project-Award

Smarter Working Live Award for NHS Business Services Authority.

NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) has won the Small-Scale Project award for their work on ‘Am I Exempt?’, at the Smarter Working Live Awards 2020.

The virtual ceremony was held on Thursday November 26, recognising outstanding public sector digital transformation and government innovation.

Following success in 2019 with the Efficiency Savings award for the launch of Manage Your Service (MYS), NHSBSA were pleased to be shortlisted in 4 categories and delighted to win the Small-Scale Project award for ‘Am I Exempt?’

Am I Exempt? is an online tool used to check if an exemption certificate entitles the holder to free NHS treatment.

The tool can check if an NHS exemption:

  • is still valid or will expire soon
  • entitles the holder to free NHS prescriptions
  • entitles the holder to free NHS dental check-ups and treatment

Tori Hutchinson, Lead Digital Delivery Manager for the project said “It’s fantastic to be recognised for this digital service which allows users to quickly check if they have a valid exemption in place. This service was built to address a significant user need in this space, and we have subsequently heard that it provides reassurance and confidence for our many users, reducing confusion and simplifying their journey to access healthcare. This was a great team effort with links across services - well done everyone!”

Darren Curry, Chief Digital Officer, said “We are thrilled to win again this year. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in these projects which support healthcare professionals and the general public alike.”

Now entering its 4th year, Smarter Working Live (formerly the Public Sector Paperless Awards) is a unique celebration of outstanding public sector digital transformation and has grown to become one of the most anticipated annual awards nights to honour government innovation.
